City Collegians won in the Glocal Youth National Competition for addressing societal issues held via Zoom on September 30, 2021.
The Team Vanguards, led by Flor Emmanuelle Dayag, with Mark June Gasgas, Aldrin Moile, and Jeama Villares, made it to the Top 3 winners of the National Competition of solution presentation in addressing Poverty, Environment, and Human Rights issues. They focused on dealing with the environmental problem of solid waste pollution and came up with a project solution named, The Green Barter.
The Green Barter is an exchange system of recyclable materials and goods via door-to-door delivery. The main goal of the proposed solution is to provide an easier way for people to collect and sell their recyclable solid wastes and lessen the build up on landfills and eradicate pollution in the City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
The five judges of the contest, Mr. Chulyong Lee, the CEO and president of the Glocal Youth Camp, along with the facilitators and previous lecturers, Mr. Saffaan Qadir, Mr. Isaac Linco, Mr. Mark Tinao, and Ms. Sharon Cabusao-Silva, applauded the presentations of all the contenders. They were pleased when they saw the improvement of youth leaders in applying what they have learned from the previous lectures and workshops on creating a proper presentation, analyzing the issues, and developing practical solutions.
The other teams who won the competition were Team UPA1 and Team UPA2, both composed of students from University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and De Lasalle University. The winning teams will proceed to the Glocal Youth International Competition which will be held on October 16, 2021.
